MOT testing in Ipswich
Class 4 MOT tests at our family-run garage on Parliament Road.

What the MOT does and doesn’t cover
The MOT checks that your car meets road safety and environmental standards on the day of the test. It isn’t a service, and it doesn’t guarantee the car’s condition afterwards.

What we inspect
Brakes, tyres, steering, suspension, lights, visibility and emissions are part of a Class 4 test, along with the other items the test requires.
- 02
When you need one
Most cars need their first MOT by the third anniversary of registration, then one every year after that. Check your expiry date on GOV.UK before you book.
- 03
If your car fails
The test result lists the defects found. A dangerous defect means the car shouldn’t be driven until it’s repaired. Ask the team about the repairs needed.
Not sure of your vehicle’s class? Call 01473 727725 before you book. You can also check your MOT history on GOV.UK.

MOT Testing FAQs
Answers to common questions about MOT dates, what the test covers and booking at Rayners Garage in Ipswich.
When is my car’s MOT due?
Most cars in the UK need their first MOT by the third anniversary of registration and another every year afterwards. You can check your vehicle’s exact MOT expiry date using the official GOV.UK MOT history service.
How early can I book an MOT without changing the renewal date?
You can have your MOT up to one month minus one day before its expiry date and keep the same renewal date for the following year. Rayners Garage provides MOT testing in Ipswich; contact the team to arrange an appointment.
What does an MOT test check?
An MOT checks whether a vehicle meets applicable road safety and environmental standards. Inspected components include brakes, tyres, steering, suspension, lights, visibility and emissions, where relevant. It does not replace regular servicing.
Can I drive my car if its MOT has expired?
Generally, you cannot drive or park a vehicle on the road without a valid MOT. Limited exceptions include travelling to a pre-arranged MOT test or to or from repairs, but the vehicle must still be roadworthy.
